Pool right on the road and in windy position. Vegetable soup was good but the waitress brought the entree at almost the same time as the soup so you had to choose which one to eat and which to let go cold. Then when you find out that the restaurant has no licence for beer or wine with your meal it is hard to get too excited about eating there although the chicken breast at lunch was very tasty my supposed 8oz certified sirloin steak was thin, fatty and tasteless. I was not forewarned that there was a train track yards from the back of the hotel and the room shook when trains passed which also hooted three times every time they went by (2 - 3 per hour and through the night). Not knowing the area and wanting to stay somewhere close to the Organ Pipe NP I booked this Best Western over their internet. I will stop in Tucson or Yuma next time I need a room nearby. The unit was still spewing pieces of this stuff after he left. The "maintenance" person came in and poked around, swept up the chunks, and left. The air conditioner/heater was spewing out dirty chunks of some lint like substance. You could feel the room vibrate when the train went by. Each one blasted a loud horn which woke me, but not my wife. There were at least 5 trains that rolled through after I turned the lights out. The railroad tracks must be right behind the hotel. We could hear footsteps outside our room and the traffic from the street. This cleared after about 2 hours and was fine until morning when we could smell it again, but less strong. It was so bad it was like a feed lot was next door. The Bad: When we first arrived, the outside air smelled strongly like cow manure. On the flip side, there was a lot to complain about. The breakfast food was excellent and the wait staff was friendly and competent. I really enjoyed my chicken fried steak and eggs. We were pleasantly surprised to find that our free "continental" breakfast was actually a full cooked breakfast. The Good: The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. I try to see the positive, so here's my best shot at the good aspects of our stay. The one exception is to the south, as the desert here lies at the edge of the vast Barry M Goldwater Air Force Range, and is closed to general access.I was traveling with my wife and 2 kids (3 and 7) to San Diego from Texas and decided to stay in Gila Bend to break up the trip. Undeveloped public land surrounds Gila Bend in most directions, including Woolsey Peak Wilderness to the north and Maricopa Mountains Wilderness to the east, part of Sonoran Desert National Monument. Most facilities in town are spread out along 2 miles of the main road ( Pima Street), including about a dozen restaurants and a limited selection of lodging the town is exactly half way (115 miles) between Tucson and Yuma, so a logical place to break the journey. Other scattered ranges dot the horizon but the immediate surroundings are flat, empty desert, apart from some irrigated land near the river. The small city of Gila Bend is situated along Hwy 85 near the I-8 intersection (exit 115), three miles from the Gila River which curves from the north to the west, round the edge of the Gila Bend Mountains.
